Friday Feel-Good Blog

Deborah's Diary

Finally! I’m writing my Friday Feel-Good Blog, and I have good news! As many of you may know, I was diagnosed with breast cancer late last year (2022) and had surgery on January 3 this year. I am thrilled to tell you the cancer was contained in the tumour and did not spread. I have met with my radiologist and oncologist, and we have a treatment plan ready to go once my incision heals. The healing process has been extended, with the incision not healing as quickly as I had hoped. Here’s a shout-out to the nurses who tend to my “stuffing” daily.

Family Feel-Goods

My family has provided tremendous support for me during my recovery. Hubby has been fantastic in looking after the kitchen, keeping it clean and tidy. He can easily prepare a meal or pick up take-out (I have to place the order, though). What a coincidence that our range stopped working at the same time! We’ve enjoyed a lot of take-out meals this past month.  It arrived yesterday, and now I will have to start cooking again. I think I can handle it, especially now that I have an appetite and feel-good.

The grandkids have popped by for visits. On our last visit, they brought over freshly baked brownies. They also invited their aunts to come over to share in the goodies. Monty loved his chocolate goodies so much that Poppa is sure he ate four before he went home. Not a crumb was left for us to nibble on. We played a new game called The Floor is Lava. It’s something like Twister, although we all agreed this was more entertaining. This is a fun game to play if you have little ones or know someone young at heart.

Thank You for Your Feel-Goods

Thank you to all of you who have sent me best wishes for a speedy recovery and those who have had breast cancer and offered their support and wisdom. I received flowers, homemade soups, coffee and cookies, and a handmade quilt, to name a few of my gifts. I’ve spent most of my time resting with Fluffy and Marmie keeping me company. I found it difficult to type, which explains why I haven’t been posting on social media. I plan to catch up this weekend.

Feel-Good Read

I found a book this week that I’m sure you’ll enjoy and will help you to feel-good if you are feeling down. It’s called, The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse. Author and illustrator Charlie Mackesy tells the tale of a curious boy, a wise horse, a wary fox and a greedy mole who share adventures and conversations that will touch all of us.  https://www.amazon.ca/Boy-Mole-Fox-Horse/dp/0062976583

The book is filled with tidbits that are deep and meaningful. For example, the book opens with the following:

“I’m so small,” said the mole.

“Yes,” said the boy. “But you make a huge difference.”

I encourage you to take a look at this book and find out for yourself.

Book Shelfies

It’s never too late to share your shelfies with me. Mara Purl, a national best-selling author and a friend, sent me a photograph of one of the bookshelves she shares with her husband. We share similar reading tastes. You can check out her website to see what she writes. https://marapurl.com/

Mara writes feel-good women’s fiction.

My publishing mentor, Judith Briles, sent me several photographs of her various bookshelves. I opted to post two of them. The first looks very stylish, most likely in her study.

The second photograph is taken in her office. I recognize the books as either written by herself or by authors she has mentored. If you want to check out Judith, here’s a link to her website: https://thebookshepherd.com/

Weekend Plans

My plans for the weekend are to rest, read, and maybe get a few words of writing done. Most of all, to feel-good. Oh yes, there’s laundry to catch up on, too. Isn’t there always laundry waiting for us? Hubby isn’t working this weekend, so I know he’ll be looking for a new series or movie to watch. Do you have any suggestions? Movies with subtitles are acceptable.

No matter what you do, have a great weekend.

Happy reading!
