Friday Feel-Good Blog

Deborah's Diary

It’s Mother’s Day Weekend, and I’m looking forward to spending time with my family, so I’ve already got the feel-good feeling. Although I don’t know the details, I’m told that we will meet at my grandkiddies’ home for food and lots of fun and games. Our family is big on games, whether they are card games, board games or video games. AND  we are extremely competitive. My favourite DIL found that out on our family cruise to Alaska. She didn’t know that playing Monopoly could be ruthless.

Vendor Show

My first vendor show of the year was not a great success. I sold one book. There are many reasons I can list for why it wasn’t a successful day, but I think the most important is that the event wasn’t well-attended. Most of the vendors were not making sales, or enough sales to make their day worthwhile. The hall was not full, maybe fifty percent. I made the rounds, checking out the various tables, seeing what was for sale. I did get to chat with people. I’m always surprised when I’m told, “Oh, I don’t read.” That’s nothing to feel good about.

As per usual, I didn’t leave empty-handed. I bought honey, maple syrup and award-winning butter tarts for my hubby.

Farm Life

Mother Nature has been sending feel-good vibes our way. The fellas have got the heavy machinery out and are getting the cultivator and planters ready for field work this coming Monday. What gets planted first? It all depends on which fields are dry enough for us to work. However, the rule is corn first, then soybeans. We plant wheat in the fall, giving the seeds time to germinate and grow before the snow falls.

Update on Bates

In honour of Mother’s Day, I’m giving Bate’s mother an appearance or two in his book. If you know Bates, how do you imagine his mother? What does she look like? What is she like as a person or a mother? Did she help shape him as a man,  or was she hands-off, leaving him to fend for himself? I’d love to hear (read)  your thoughts on him.

Weekend Plans

To all the moms, step-moms, and special ladies who make a child’s life special (even grown-up kids), I hope you have a wonderful weekend, are flooded with love and happiness, and feel special. And hugs. I wish you lots of hugs.

Happy reading,
