We all have birthdays, maybe with birthday cake, once a year. Some of us love celebrating while others would prefer that no one acknowledge it. Maybe it’s unhappy memories, or the thought of getting older is too much to bear. Whatever a person’s reason, it’s their choice.
Let’s Have a Party!
On the other hand, my two-and-a-half-year-old granddaughter, Gigi, loves birthdays and birthday parties. This week, she wanted to have a pretend birthday with a birthday cake. Her fabulous mother agreed. And so, the two of them made a birthday cake from scratch, iced it, and decorated it with sprinkles as per Gigi’s request. Once the cake was ready, our family received a text message to come over and celebrate.
The party was a success. The candles were lit and we sang several rounds of Happy Birthday to Gigi. She loved practicing blowing out the candles. Once she was satisfied that she could do it, we cut the cake and enjoyed a delicious treat. What a coincidence that a parcel had arrived that day from a great aunt who filled it with presents for all three children! Gigi was thrilled to have cake and presents! We should all be so lucky.
Party On!
Gigi’s second birthday party reminded me of those who celebrate their birthday week or birthday month. I applaud their energy and optimism. I only hope they aren’t expecting presents every day. But, what a wonderful idea – to celebrate the date of your birth any day you wish for as long as you wish. It’s your day. Celebrate it.
Wishing you a happy birthday, whenever it may be and however many times celebrate it.
