Do You Have Christmas Tree Traditions?

Deborah's Diary

Have you noticed all the posts of Christmas trees on social media? I love to look at how people decorate their trees, especially when they mention a family tradition that goes along with the tree. There’s something about the lights and decorations, especially the tree topper, that gives me that warm feeling inside.

Our Christmas Tree

This year, we had the grandchildren help us with the Christmas tree. They were on a Christmas high, having helped decorate their trees at home. They wanted to do more. With their two aunts as their helpers, we began decorating the tree. They were excited and marvelled at the Santas and unusual decorations. We had a whale from our Alaskan cruise, a Russian doll from St. Petersburg, Dutch clogs from Holland, and a teddy bear Queen’s Guard from London. There were gingerbread men and women, airplanes, and of course, plenty of cows. We have the handmade decorations the kids made when they were little, and now we have the decorations the grandkids have made for us, each one dated with the grandchild’s name.

Where’s the Bear?

Years ago, my mother gave our kids a decoration of the A & W Root Bear. My youngest daughter doesn’t want it on the tree, but our eldest daughter insists it has a place of honour at the front. It’s become a game throughout Christmas where it hangs at the front of the tree then disappears to the back then finds its way to the front once more.

Starting a New Christmas Tradition

My husband and I talked about the fun of having the grandkids help with decorating the tree. We’re hopeful that we’ve started a new Christmas tree tradition that includes the grandkids every year.
Do you have a Christmas tree tradition you’d like to share? Do you have a favourite decoration with a place of honour on the tree?

Wishing you a Merry Christmas and all the joys that come this holiday season.
